“BJP must look at the philosophy of Deendayal Upadhyaya again which is also its official philosophy to get on the right path.”
Deendayal Upadhyaya was a personality who had a clear view regarding the aim of the state and the way to achieve that aim. He was a great thinker, a genius and a statesman. Because of his moderate views he was appreciated by everyone. CPI leader Hiren Mukherji named him as “AjaatShatru” (enemy on none) and Acharya Kripalani similised him as “Daivi Sampada” (divine wealth).
According to the Article 3 of BJP’s Constitution “Integral Humanism” is the basic philosophy of BJP. But I think they are more committed not to apply it in practicality.
Upadhyaya is of the view that after 16-17 years of the Independence India is still not doing good and the situation has not more or less changed except that the power is now in the hands of the Indians. He provides a clear view as what should be our goal as a nation and how to achieve that goal. And he also gives a national identity. Integral Humanism is that identity. He has equal distaste for Capitalism and Socialism. He thinks that the ideas of West should not be adopted as it is neither should they be rejected fully. We must adopt whatever is suitable to our conditions keeping other factors in mind. He accepts that Nationalism in the West has led to the “global conflict”.
He argues that democracy gives rights but same is used by the capitalist class for exploitation and creating monopoly. In socialism individual is like a prisoner who gets everything on time but at the expense of freedom and dignity of the individual.
He says demand is created in this global market which is absolutely wrong. He justifies it with the example of tea. How a demand of tea was created and now tea is an indispensable part of every Indian’s life.
He acknowledges right to food as a birthright. He gives emphasis on “free education” and “free medical treatment” as it was before 1947 in all the princely states. And state must give employment to everyone because only then the expenditure can be met. The economic system should be such which achieves the basic things essential for the maintenance and development of the people as well as the protection and development of the nation.
The ultimate aim of the state should be the progress and happiness of man. And individual is made up of body, mind, intelligence and the soul. So progress of all these is the purpose of the state which together make up an integrated human.
So Deendayal Upadhyaya took the great ideas out of every concept and didn’t accept them as it is. He neither rejected the ideas fully nor accepted it with the closed eyes. He took a मध्यम मार्ग and puts Dharma above every person. This is the reason that he is respected by everyone irrespective of the political party.
